The cliffhanger of not knowing whether you'd found the lip gloss was almost overwhelming. It took every ounce of polite restraint to keep me from skipping to the end to find out.

Hear hear. I think someone famous once said - 'Lip gloss does not maketh the woman...' or words to that effect. While we all know that to be true there is an undeniable appeal to the shiny, kissing sweet goodness of a great lip gloss. Apparently during a recession/depression there are two items that continue to sell - lipstick and booze. That says it all about the priorities of the human race. Haha.

I love that you can apply make-up properly (sadly, I cannot - always look like I'm in drag) and I bet you look hot. Totes!!

I feel so informed! I'd never heard of Gotye. And I agree with you--if you want to be jaunty and Frenchify your name, just Frenchify it already. Poser-Frenglish is just silly. And i don't watch Glee. I'm feeling more justified at the mo. I've caught hubby watching it, but he always makes an excuse when I do. I can get along with a high school based show if it's like... Buffy. Or Vernonica Mars. But really there needs to be BIGGER than high school stuff going on or it just annoys me. I already went to high school. I have a daughter in high school. Believe me. There is nothing to sing about.

Hehehe- I had no idea Glee covered the song because I'm behind on my Glee. I DID however stumble across the Walk Off the Earth cover of the song on youtube which made the song popular before Gotye?? Goyte??? became such a sensation in the US. So probably he's miffed about the Glee cover because a cover of his song was popular before his actual version of his song. Poor Walter. ;)

I just saw the movie last night! It was just about perfectly executed. I agree about Haymitch. Jennifer Lawrence is OUTSTANDING. If you haven't seen 'Winter's Bone', you must, totally explains why she was picked for the part. I too, was really worried that the love story would be sappy or embarrassing to watch. But I loved it. I completely got the anti-consumerism and government control. There were a couple of background scenes when parents at the Capitol are giving their kids play swords. Also, the pack mentality of the careers. I loved what they put in the end with Kato's death. "I've been dead all along" (or something to that effect).

Great review! Now, go watch 'Winter's Bone'!

having just read the book a week or two ago, i haven't been paying that much attention to the hype surrounding the movie but i will admit that when i watched the preview i was SHOCKED to see woody harrelson as haymitch. he's just not how i pictured haymitch and your review clears that up for me.

Wow, that's a tough one. I think I'd say book first, but just because I loved the books so much. I can't say that I loved the movie as much, and probably it isn't close, BUT it's a great way to have the visuals of Katniss and the rest. Except for Haymitch. Fie on Woody.

I will say that this is a MUCH better movie adaptation than other ones I've seen. The first two Harry Potter movies were AWFUL to me--it was like Potter's Greatest Hits and some cool stuff thrown in. This wasn't that. If you've ever seen the movie adaptations of Anne of Green Gables (just the first two; the third was a travesty of epic proportions) or The Lord of the Rings, it's sort of like that: recognizably and positively reflections of the books, while lacking some exposition that made the books so memorable and important.

I came to your blog after reading your comment in the National Post. I too was incensed with Mary Rogan's flippant characterization of families like ours that deal with Aspergers throughout our children's lives. I enjoyed your well-reasoned response. Me, I resorted to sarcasm. Keep your head up - as another commentator suggested, Ms. Rogan is little more than one of those bullies from the schoolyard that somehow tries to make herself appear more important by belittling others. I'm a big fan of karma and I suspect that she will one day have a very rude awakening.
